Abstract The present paper is a response, of sorts, to the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID) and lockdown that we all must face. We have an idea of what doctors, nurses, teachers, among many of the other professions, do for the general public, but one may ask whether there is something substantial that philosophers and ethicists can offer in these circumstances. This is a transcription of the beginning of Walter Burley’s (c. 1275–after 1344) commentary on Aristotle’s Politics (book one, tractate one, chapter one). The transcription reproduces the text of Vatican, MS Borgh. 129, fol. 1r–148v (here fol. 2rb–6va), which has been accessed in a high quality digital reproduction in colour. The commentary has been dated between 1338/39 and 1342. The transcription includes two apparatuses. The first of them is dedicated to references, mainly to Aristotle’s Politics. Le riflessioni di Poggi e Baratono su Marx e Kant

Viene presa in esame la stretta relazione esistente tra la filosofia pratica di Kant e il materialismo storico di Marx nell’ampio e complesso contesto della cultura determinatasi in Europa a cavaliere dei secoli XIX e XX. A tale scopo, non si può trascurare l’analisi di quanti hanno rimarcato la stretta relazione tra la filosofia critica di Kant e il materialismo storico di Marx. In tal senso la memoria conduce immediatamente e in primo luogo alla chiave di lettura offerta da Alfredo Poggi ad inizio del Novecento. La linea interpretativa di Poggi fu in seguito ripresa da Adelchi Baratono, così come si può riscontrare sulle pagine de «La Critica Sociale» degli anni intorno al 1920.

Die deutschen Idealisten waren der Auffassung, Kant habe mit seiner transzendentalen Umwälzung der Begründungsproblematik eine Revolution in der philosophischen Denkungsart in Gang gesetzt, die es weniger aufzuhalten als vielmehr dadurch zu vollbringen gelte, daß die Voraussetzungen oder ‚Fundamente‘ der Kantischen Philosophie selbst kritisch in den Blick genommen würden. This paper deals with the concept of positive learning (PL). The main goal is to provide a working definition of PL on which further refinements and extensions can be based. First, I formulate a list of desiderata for a definition of PL: I argue that a working definition of PL should (i) make the involved epistemic norms explicit, (ii) be flexible, and (iii) be empirically tractable. After that, I argue that a working definition of PL should focus on three basic epistemic norms (which I call Evidentialism, Degrees of Plausibility, and Non-Arbitrary Updates). Politics and the ‘Ideology’ of Journalism in Romania: Results from Local Case Studies

Abstract The paper approaches the ‘ideology’ of Romanian post-communist journalism as identified in local news media organisations. We focus on the practical philosophy of journalism, emphasizing elements such as autonomy, truth, objectivity; and the relationship of journalists and news organisations with political actors. Special attention is given to the interplay between this practical philosophy and the political and economic constraints influencing news media organisations in Romania.
